Paper Towel Holder

Good afternoon ya'll! As you know, I live in a house with 3 men. So you can imagine their reaction when I came home with a paper towel holder like this. -------------->

Not like it's a big deal, its a paper towel holder for crying out loud. But I saw this how-to on Pinterest and instantly fell in love! My hunny and I went to Home Depot, got the materials and went to work! (and by work I mean a piece of cake!)

Materials:

1- 1/2″ Galvanized Floor Flange
1- 1/2″ X 12″
1 -1/2″ Tee Fitting
4 - Screws
1- Fence Post Topper/Cap
Miniwax Stain (I used dark walnut)
Staining sponge OR old, but clean, sock OR towel  
220 grit sandpaper
Optional- Sander or Sanding block to make your sanding a little easier

Instructions: 1. I began with sanding down the fence topper. I sanded the sides, top and corners. You do not need to use a fence topper as your base, you can use any wood (probable need an 8x8 and 1 inch thick) but I liked the look of this fence topper and wanted a taller/thicker base. 2. After sanding is completed, I wiped the wood down to remove any dust and began to stain. I ran home during my lunch break to do these two steps because I was so excited, so I hurriedly use an old sock to do the staining. I stained all over, except the bottom, let it sit then wiped up any remainder that might have been pooled on top. 3.While that dried, I tried to scrape the price tag off the 12" pipe which was a hassle, but it finally was off. A little adhesive residue remained but I just left it since it will be covered by a paper towel roll. 4.Once the stain has dried, I sprayed it with Polyurethane (mine is clear) and let it dry again. Because I did this in the garage, and it's January, so I let it dry a few days in between. 5. Now that it is dried, it it time to assemble. I gathered my four screws and found the middle of the wood where I will screw in the floor flange. I drilled them in with some odd ball screws and wala! The only thing that needs to be done is to screw on the pipe, add the paper towels, and put the tee topper on to finish it off!
