I am so excited for my latest craft! This 2 hour project (including shopping time in Joann's) has brought a little extra cutness to my entry way!
We acquired this bench from Trevor's mom, and it had some very... lovely... 1987's pattern on it. I actually tried to complete this craft probably 2 months ago and was unsuccessful. So naturally I got frustrated and gave up. First I am going to tell you what NOT to do:
Do NOT wrap your new fabric over your old fabric.
Do NOT use burlap. It will unravel, it will be the lumpy, and it will make a mess.

I have a kinda outdoorsy, wood pallet, burlap theme so I thought the burlap on the bench would be so cute. But now I am glad I gave up months ago because I am so happy with how it turned out!
At Joann Fabrics I got 1 yard of this fun fabric. Victoria and I thought it was neutral with a splash of color, it's kind of like a mustard yellow mixed with a hint of an olive green! The lady at Joann's said that since this is linen it will be easy to clean with a steam cleaner. (score!) When I got home, I took the pieces of wood and their foam pieces and laid them on the new fabric. (I thought about replacing the foam but the store was closing so we had to bounce!) I measured an extra inch and a half around the edges and cut the fabric. I started to staple gun the fabric to the back of the wood, beginning with the long sides then doing the shorter sides. Once you get to the corners, Trevor and I worked together to fold them in in a way they wouldn't bunch.(See above) Once the seats were done, Trevor went and reattached the seats to the bench with some screws (how they were originally attached) and Vwala!
Next on the agenda is to make a pillow or two to coordinate with the mirror. I am thinking a grey or yellow pillow and I have extra fabric from the seats... what should I do with the extra fabric? Do you think having a small pillow with that fabric would be too much? Let me know what you think!
